A residence permit for stays in Italy up to 3 months for business, tourism and study reasons does not have to be requested.
THE MAIN TYPES OF RESIDENCE PERMIT
1) FOR EMPLOYMENT
The issuance of the residence permit for work reasons is subject to the possession of an entry visa for work reasons following clearance for hiring or carrying out work.
The residence permit has a duration of 2 years if the employment contract is for an indefinite period or 1 year in another case.
For the delivery of the permit it is possible to wait up to 12 months.

RENEWAL

2) FOR SELF-EMPLOYMENT
The residence permit for self-employment is issued to non-EU citizens who are in Italy to carry out self-employed work, again by virtue of the issue of an authorization that must be requested.

3) FOR POLITICAL ASYLUM

The law governing the matter determines the requirements for obtaining political asylum: "" those who are rightfully afraid of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, belonging to a particular social group or because of its political opinions, is located outside the country of which it is a citizen and cannot or does not want, because of this fear, to avail itself of the protection of this country; or who, not having a citizenship and being outside the country in which he had his habitual residence following such events, cannot or does not want to return there due to the aforementioned fear ".
The Police Headquarters issues a permit for 'political asylum' to the holder of "refugee status".
The first release must be requested at the Police Headquarters, the renewal takes place via postal procedure.
The residence permit for political asylum has a duration of 5 years, is renewable and allows the carrying out of a working activity.

THE RESIDENCE CARD
The residence card is a residence permit for an indefinite period and can only be requested by those who have had a residence permit for at least 5 years.
